Zind Humbrecht Riesling Clos Windsbuhl 2023
Clos Windsbuhl is a historic Clos whose history goes back to the 14th century, and whose owners were the imperial family of Austria (The Habsburg). The Riesling is planted on the upper part of the Clos, facing south-east, where the Muschelkalk limestone is almost outcropping on a steep slope. This high altitude but sunny location allows for late ripening of the grapes. The sugar content remains moderate, but the physiological maturity is complete. Although it is the last Riesling to be harvested on the estate, Windsbuhl often has one of the highest acidity level with a reasonable alcohol strength. Fermentations are amongst the slowest and can last until the summer following the harvest but does end with a dry wine. This particular balance gives the Windsbuhl wines, and especially the Riesling, a racy, energetic and lively texture.
01/2025: bright pale yellow colour. The nose is delicately expressive and reveals upon aeration notes of citrus, rock water, fresh fruit and above all a beautiful crystalline mineral sensation. The saline acidity gives the wine a juicy and engaging texture while remaining very precise and racy. It is a wine that leaves a sensation of great purity and elegance, a form of airy lightness but the wine imposes itself with persistence and energy. Very long finish which announces a great wine for laying down. Winery Note
