Van Volxem Geisbock Riesling 2023
To be bottled mid-August 2024, the 2023 Geisbock combines the fruit from the Geisberg and the Bockstein and follows the Ockfener. Since the Geisberg will be the cru vineyard of Schoden (for whatever reasons, after hundreds of years known as Ockfener Geisberg), this wine can no longer be sold as Ockfener. The wine opens with a pure, fresh and crystalline yet also intense and well-concentrated Riesling and slate aroma. Round and textured on the palate, with fine, crystalline acidity, this is a supple yet light and stimulating off-dry Riesling that is almost weightless in terms of alcohol yet intense in flavors. It has a long and intense finish. 11% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2024. 92 points. Drink 20292045 - Stephen Reinhardt, Wine Advocate.
