Thomas Kiss Shiraz 2019
From the sensory overhaul of Thomas' quality single-vineyard expressions, this one may win out. Not necessarily because it articulates the vineyard better than any other, but because the oak and grape tannins are handled with skill seldom seen in this country. Violet, blue/black-fruit aspersions, anise and clove. Then a resinous emergence of forensically detailed grape tannin and classy French oak. Drink to 2035. 96 Points. Tasting Notes - from Andrew Thomas
A benchmark Hunter Shiraz from an outstanding vintage, displaying a delightfully deep and vibrant purple hue. The 2019 vintage has a slightly 'gentler' feel than the last couple of vintages, but is definitely still in the fuller end of the medium bodied spectrum. Flush with concentrated dark blue fruits, savoury spice and a long, satiny tannin structure which encapsulates the wine in its entirety. The premium French oak maturation is still evident in its youth but also provides the additional structural complexity that the primary fruit intensity demands. Deliciously bright and intense as a youngster, this wine is also a belter for the cellar.
