'One of France’s foremost vignerons and winemakers today.' - Yohan Castaing, The Wine Advocate.
'One of the most elegant and complex examples of young chenin blanc that I have had the pleasure to taste.' - John Gilman, View From the Cellar.
As of the 2024 release, this wine includes some Grand Cru Bonnezeaux fruit. While being one of the cheaper wines in the stable, the 'grey label' Anjou Blanc very much typifies the Boudignon style. It's one of absolute crystalline purity and minerality. These are wines not driven by fruit but driven by rock and terroir. Of course, fruit plays a supportive role (cold white peach and red apple skin flavours) but it is the river pebble minerality and crushed rock textures that really define the wine. Acid is plentiful, as you would expect, and a lemon citrus element aids further freshness. Great now but possibly even better in a few years’ time. - Ches Cook, Five Way Cellars.
From 40-year-old vines which are in conversion from organic to bio-dynamic, planted at 8000 vines/ha on shallow soils of grey schist and rhyolite in St Lambert du Lattay. Fermented in stainless steel with native yeasts for 2-3 weeks with no malo, followed by maturation in 300 and 750 litre barrels (30% new) for 15-18 months.
