Schoffit Gewurztraminer Lieu-Dit Harth Cuvée Caroline 2023
From an old massale selection planting of 50-75 year-old vines on gravelly soil covered by loess in the Harth vineyard. Fermentation and aging in stainless steel for 11 months before bottling in August of the following year. Made from yields of around 50 hl/ha this wine has striking purity, medium body and excellent length. Small quantities coming of this almost totally dry Gewürztraminer which perfectly compliments their other dry aromatic wines we are importing in this new shipment. Notably different to the Grand Cru Rangen Gewürztraminer which carries a little more residual sugar yet still finishes quite dry. 13.3 % Alc/Vol; 8.6 g/L RS; 3.8 g/L TA. Importer note
2023 ‘The 2023 Gewurztraminer Lieu-Dit Harth opens with a clear, fresh, spicy and typically aromatic nose with aromas of lychee, rose petal and candied lemon zest intermingled with a spicy/flinty, even peppery and gingery terroir note. Based on low-yielding 50- to 75-year-old vines (massal selections), this is a full-bodied, dense, intense, elegant, finely tannic and spicy Gewürztraminer from the plain of Colmar. This is a beautifully textured and structured Gewurztraminer with delicate acidity and serious structure. The finish is stimulatingly salty, bitter and finely tannic. The eight grams of residual sugar taste anything but sweet and underline the perfect ripeness at harvest time. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in Colmar, November 2024. Drink 2025-2055.’ 94 points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate, February 2025.
