San Giusto Vin Santo 2018 375ml (half-Bottle)
Certified Organic
San Giusto A Rentannano are up there with Italy’s top growers – they are all about purity of sangiovese fruit, elegance (almost feminine for super Tuscan), beautiful aromatics, and superb freshness. They were certified organic in 2008 vintage. Set in the far south of the Chianti Classico zone, San Giusto a Rentennano started out as a medieval Cistercian monastery and currently owns about 40 hectares of vineyards – a small landholding compared to some of big Tuscan names and a feature that means they produce small quantities of wine.
The 2018 Vin San Giusto is utterly sublime. It's an unusually delicate wine this year, even with 420 grams per liter of residual sugar and a whopping 1.65 grams of volatile acidity that adds lift. I don't usually give chemistry without context that much importance, as I think that leads to an over-reliance on data, but I don't know of any other way to explain the delicacy and lightness here. Dried figs, spice box, menthol, espresso and brown sugar build effortlessly in the glass. Exquisite. 97 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous.
