Rockford Rifle Range Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
Often the best of the Rockford wines for me, and even though it’s Cabernet, it perhaps offers the most ‘Rockford’ experience of all the wines, at least these days.
Black fruit, some dried rose and vanilla, something of a nutty and spicy edge too. It’s medium-bodied, cherry and blackberry, a smattering of dried herb perfume, a grainy grip to tannin, good concentration, a tobacco savoury flourish, with a brisk and tangy finish of good length. It’s perhaps a bit more rugged than some of the best vintages, though it still has charisma and the character of quality wine. 93 pts, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
This wine highlights the suitability of Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz as some of the most notable and traditional varieties grown in the Barossa. The grapes are forked into our 1880s wooden Bagshaw de-stemmer before fermenting in open slate tanks. Our Basket press slowly squeezes the remaining juice from the grapes, before the individual components are left to mature in seasoned oak casks. When the final blend comes together, layers of soft, savoury, and spicy flavours emerge and will develop further with a handful more years in the bottle. Winery's notes.
