Robert Weil Grafenberg Riesling Spatlese 2019
Although we tend to focus on the dry wines in Australia, Weil are widely considered one of the true greats of the sweeter Pr?dikat styles. One of the keys to this Estate?s success with these styles is that the mountainous, rocky setting of the Kiedricher Berg vineyards allows for a perfect balance between natural sweetness, mouth-watering freshness and pungent, intense minerality.
As always, this is staggeringly beautiful. You have the same quality markers that make the GG such an incredible wine, but there is the added deliciousness of a gentle sweetness balanced by vibrant, juicy freshness. Although this is powerful for a Sp?tlese, it has stunning purity and juicy, vibrant acidity. Incredibly moreish, the overall balance and low alcohol makes it all too easy to polish off a bottle by oneself! It was bottled at 9% with just shy of 75 grams residual, but the finish is fresh and powdery. Super-perfumed and packed with ripe apple, and all kinds of citrus and stone fruit characters, it?s hard to imagine a more delicious wine!
?The ravishing, golden aromas gently lead you into the inner circle of this stunning Sp?tlese that's simultaneously deep and very fine. Really compact and complex at the very long finish.? 97 points, Stuart Pigott, JamesSuckling.com.
