Pira Chiara Boschis Barolo 'Mosconi' 2014
Tasting with Chiara (in her cellars) 13th January 2019
Chiara is her normal effervescent self with the whole Cook family signing up for this tasting. If you ever want to see the human soul that makes Piedmont such a special place, Chiara Boschis is it.
A powerful wine of great intensity and complexity. Up front, plum, blackfruits and licoice, below the surface some sweeter stone fruit and poached pear, softening the power. Altogether delicious with beautiful freshness and acid balance. Ian Cook. FWC
A wine of power and breadth, the 2014 Barolo Mosconi has all of the textural depth that is typical of this Monforte site. Dark cherry, plum, smoke, licorice and incense are some of the many notes that fill out the wine's generous frame. It will be interesting to see if the 2014 comes together a bit more fully with time in bottle. Today, it is decidedly virile and a touch monolithic. 93 points
