Pietradolce Etna Rosato 2023
The Cook family visited this outstanding producer in January 2019. What a revelation – this is my favourite Sicilian producer from the slopes of Mt Etna. Ian Cook, FWC.
Pietradolce sits high on the slopes of Mt Etna with its ‘sweet stone’ minerality derived from the volcanic soil and the cool nights and warm days endowing the wines with a precision, richness, minerality, fragrance and depth unique to this microclimate. The Rosato is made from 100% Nerello Mascalese – a noble Sicilian grape of particular significance around Mt Etna.
This has more interest and complexity than most other roses on the market, showing mandarin zest, dehydrated orange peel, dried red berry and a nice crunch to the fresh acid line. It shows some ripe citrus notes and a mineral core rarely seen in roses from Provence, for example. - Ches Cook, FWC.
