Nicole Lamarche Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru 'Les Chaumes' 2021
Lamarche owns a solid half-hectare in Les Chaumes, a superb vineyard under Aux Malconsorts and La Tache. The vines here are now between 30 and 40 years old. As with the other 2020s in our offer, this fermented with 30% whole bunches. Lamarche notes that Chaumes gives her a wine reminiscent of Clos de Vougeot, an assertion that takes on more significance when you taste her sublimely elegant expression of that Grand Cru. From just half a hectare of vines, it is very fine boned and yet the perfumed fruit is shot through with earthy, rocky complexity.
'Much the same colour, this has a drier red berry fruit without the light sucrosity of the village Vosne-Romanee, showing a trace more acidity instead, and similar length. The bouquet is a touch more hidden at the moment, but may blossom.' 89-91 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy.
