Mike Press Chardonnay 2024
The story of Mike Press is well told: he retired from an illustrious winemaking career with the big icon companies to plant a vineyard at a cool 500m of elevation in Lobethal in 1998. Returning to winemaking was never the plan, but he soon found himself personally delivering tantalisingly priced bottles to an increasing list of loyal fans. Two decades on, his wines continue to improve, as Mike settles into his groove and his vines attain maturity. ?James Halliday
Mike Press makes outstanding value for money wines in the Adelaide Hills and a recent trip really highlighted two things: 1. How good the Chardonnay is. 2. What great value it is. Lemon, melon, apple, nectarine. It?s fresh and crisp with just the perfect balance of ripe creaminess. Drink now. Ian Cook, FWC.
The Mike Press Wines Chardonnay is grown high in the Adelaide Hills in the Kenton Valley.
A medium bodied wine offering aromas of fresh peaches, homemade lemon curd and just ripe pineapples.
As the wine opens flavours of freshly picked golden delicious apples and nectarines can be tasted. The bright crunchy natural acidity winds itself through the fruit profile, delivering a creamy texture of spice and a hint of oak on the finish.
A quality of wine that surprises for the value.
