Massolino Parussi Barolo 2019
Here I am picking favourites. Parussi is always excellent, yet often comes in as the fourth favourite. Many producers would love this as their top wine. This vintage I discovered extra dimensions to this wine. Always different due to it’s location in Castiglione Faletto (think Vietti) with less clay and lighter soils. There are savoury, rustic notes with walnut, wild raspberry, wild herb notes, dried raspberry and more earthy and expansive than the others. You feel you are out there in the vineyard. Somehow it remains elegant and full of finesse also, Great balance and the most complex at this early stage of it’s development. Ian Cook, FWC.
“The 2019 Barolo Parussi is Massolino's sole Barolo from Castiglione Falletto. A wine of total grace and refinement, the 2019 is pure seduction. Freshly cut flowers, mint, sweet red berry fruit, orange peel and rose petal soar out of the glass. Readers will find an elegant, sublime Barolo that hits all the right notes. Don't miss it.” 97 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous.
“Raspberry, roses, such perfume and finesse, almond too. Succulent, a flood of ripe red fruit and mouth-perfume, Such succulence, perfume and poise, a pinch of orange zest, supple ‘minerally’ feel to tannin, and gee they sit so well inside the wine, and the finish is long and pure with a brick dust/crushed stone texture. Parussi seems to have gone up a notch in 2019. Superb.” 97 points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
