Jerome Prevost La Closerie Fac-Simile Rosé LC22 (Base 2022, Disgorged Sep 2024)
This rare rosé was made for the first time from the 2007 vintage. It is effectively the wine above (base 2022 with 20% reserve wines) with the addition of 10% Meunier red. It is always a brilliant wine. Prévost now aims to make it every year using the fruit of the same vineyard. The grapes for the red come from a small parcel of Les Béguines that is prone to court-noué (fanleaf virus). This virus stunts vigour and gives tiny yields of concentrated bunches and berries that ripen quickly.
Cult wines don’t always live up to the hype, but this bottle surpasses even the highest expectations—we just wish we had more to share around. The dosage this year was 2.5 g/L. As always, it’s big on personality with a bright, red-fruited persona, driven, chalky grip and a long, perfumed close. Serve it in Burgundy glasses with food (any salmon dish is a great idea) with your closest wine friends—then watch the sparks fly. Importer’s Note.
