Javi Revert ‘Micalet’ Blanco 2024
The white 2024 Micalet was produced with a mix of varieties, Tortosí, Trepadell, Malvasia, Merseguera and others from 2.5 hectares on very white soils planted in 1948 at 730 to 750 meters above sea level. The ungrafted vines were harvested first, as those grapes ripen earlier, with the grafted vines harvested 10 days later. The grapes were picked almost two weeks later than in 2023 but with the same alcohol, which to me translates into more development of aromas and flavors and more nuance. The full clusters were pressed and the juice let to settle for 12 hours and then put to ferment in concrete eggs and barrels, where the wine matured without racking for 10 months. It has a nuanced, complex and elegant Mediterranean nose, with notes of Mediterranean herbs, pollen, beeswax and straw—think Valentini or Château Simone. It has 12.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.1 and 6.1 grams of acidity with an intense chalky sensation. It should develop nicely in bottle. I tasted a bottle of the first year he vinified those grapes, 2015, which was aged exclusively in glass demijohn, and the wine was still going strong. 2,200 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2025. This wine changes next year, as it will have a longer élevage, and there will be a new white, Simeta Blanco.96 points, Luis Gutierrez, The Wine Advocate, February 2026.
It shows fabulous verticality and freshness for a Mediterranean white. Pure chalky flavours with a mineral expression that is delicate, slightly austere, and built to evolve with time in bottle. Notes of fine citrus, great sapidity and limestone-driven finesse. A masterpiece of subtlety and precision, a wine that will reward patience. 18/20. Ferran Centelles, The Purple Pages, October 2025.
