Jane Eyre Savigny les Beaune 1er Cru 'Les Vergelesses' 2022
This is the cuvee I started my negociant with in 2011. The vineyard is located in the upper middle section on an eastern facing slope. The wine is always a mix of delicate fruit aromas with spicy undertones and a brambly edge with fine but firm tannins on the finish. 30% whole clusters and 20% new oak. Racked and assembled into tank after harvest and bottled 9th November 2023. This wine is consistent in character every year. A blend of delicate fruit characters together with a freshness and chewy tannins. Always approachable in its youth, but time in the cellar and the wine will continue to gain complexity. Jane Eyre.
In bottle, just before the harvest. 20% whole bunch vinification, with one new barrel out of five. Jane's usual lighter but elegant colour. The most perfumed of the reds in bottle, rose petals on top of alpine strawberries. A touch of spice and just the right structure behind, a long and balanced finish. 92 points, drink 2027-2034, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
Light cherry red. Pretty, tangy aroma of sweet-sour red cherry. Just slightly stemmy/herbal. Pure, deep but bright fruit. Excellent balance between the purity of the fruit and the structure of the smooth but sufficient tannins. Finishes dry not sweet. Long, well-built. 17 points, drink 2027-2035, Julia Harding/Jancis Robinson.
