Henri Rebourseau Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru 'Fonteny' 2020
A few days ago (August 2023) we had the pleaseure of trying the four wines below. For me, it was my first introduction to the wines of this producer. I found them extremely impressive so jumped on an allocation which is due to reach us in November.
The wines come from the 2020 vintage which, to our own taste, has provided mixed results across Burgundy. Some wines we have tasted have been blocky and dense and have lacked elegance due to the warmth and hydric stress of the vintage. But other producers seemed to really excel, such has been the case here with Henri Rebourseau.
Based in Gevrey, the wines have an immediate brightness and approachability, but they?re backed by concentrated fruit which sits elegantly in the mouth. For me, there were elements of Chambolle-like finesse to these, which made them immediately appealing and particularly approachable despite their young age. - Ches Cook, FWC.
Discreet though perceptible wood sets off the more elegant aromas of plum, black cherry, cassis and cool spice nuances. The mouthfeel of the slightly bigger flavors is also suave and succulent with more sophisticated, and firmer, tannins supporting the dusty, youthfully austere and lightly stony finale. 90-93 points, drink 2030+, Allen Meadows, Burghound.
