Henri Germain Bourgogne Rouge Cote d’Or 2022
Like many great white producers, Germain also makes fabulous reds these days. We don’t always get an offer of this wine, and, as with the corresponding white, it comes from tiny holdings. Specifically, it is from two micro-parcels in Au Jardin (the garden-like clos behind Germain’s cellar) and the evocatively named Moulin à Judas (under Les Chevalières). It’s a superb Bourgogne Rouge, chiselled and loaded with red and dark fruit notes as well as plenty of spice. Delicious!
“The 2022 Bourgogne Côte d'Or Rouge is a rustic but flavorful, medium-bodied red evocative of smoky berry fruit and orange zest.” 88-89 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate.
“This one is still in barrel. Clear ruby purple. A generous pure pinot fruit, plenty of red berries, on the nose. Clean with adequate flesh, a little acidity, some orange zest, quite persistent.” 87-88 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy.
