Henri Germain Beaune 1er Cru 'Bressandes' 2021
This is another site that shares its name with a vineyard elsewhere—in this case, Corton’s Bressandes Grand Cru. Both sites are named after the historic landholder of these vineyards, a Canon of Beaune from the 13th century, Jean Bressand. Beaune Bressandes isn’t too far from Corton either, high on the slopes above Beaune. Germain has mature vines planted between 1960 and 1965 in a parcel high on the slope, right next to David Croix’s vines. It’s a very classy, pure example of Beaune. Importer’s notes.
“Six barrels in 30 ouvrées. Six barrels in 30 ares would have been alright! Fine clean purple. A beautiful bouquet though with correct ripeness and even some generosity of fine red berry fruit. Medium muscle, the fruit has a finer structure than the Savigny with fewer tannins, at least those which are there are beautifully integrated. Fine charming finish with the right oak balance. A great way to finish.” 90-93 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy.
“The 2021 Beaune 1er Cru Les Bressandes is immensely charming, wafting from the glass with scents of red berry compote, orange rind, rose petals and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping, it's pure and seamless, with melting tannins and a mineral finish.” 90-92 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate.
