Frankland Estate Riesling 2025

This is exceptionally good for an entry level Riesling. And what I love about it is that it differs significantly from other Rieslings from regions such as Clare or Victorian or Tasmania examples. Here you do get some citrus fruit, but what's more evident are notes of cut green apple, red apple skin and sherbet. There's plenty of acid but it's seamlessly integrated without any hard edges. High-end stuff. Juicy and bright; a zingy citrus core in red apple, tart green pear, gingery notes, mint leaf, chalky minerality and a general sense of tartness. It's very well balanced, composed, controlled and long lived. Finishes with a gentle, palate-staining intensity and residual freshness. Lots of true-to-variety riesling scents and flavours, heaps of joy and general vivacity; just a straight-up banger of a drink. 94 points, drink 2026-2033. Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion.
