Fedellos As Xaras Mencia 2021

Subregion: Val de Bibei – Larouco.

Soils: Schist, quartzite. 

Altitude: 550m 

Exposition: North-West

Wine making: 100% whole bunch for 60 days with very little pigeage. 23 months in used oak barriques. 

This wine nicely juxtaposes the vibrant and expressive Lomba do Ares). As Xaras is a slightly darker rendition of Mencia, without the over aromatics but perhaps with a touch more stuffing in the mid palate. The fruit profile is darker too but certainly maintains the hallmarks of the producer being transparency and purity. These are modern Spanish reds in the best sense possible. – Ches Cook, FWC.
