Fatalone Primitivo Riserva Gioia del Colle 2020

Primitivo (or Zinfandel) often hits high ripeness levels. One of those grape varieties where you have to crack eggs to make an omelette. Anyway, I can just feel myself getting a dose of the flu (my filthy children have had it), and I?m hoping this wine will kill it off. Maybe I?ll drink the whole bottle, and see what happens. It?s an ideal ?winter wine?, I think. Importer: Mondo Imports.

The dark chocolate almonds, always the almonds with this wine. It?s rich and throaty, has plenty of ripe sooty tannin, a pleasing blood orange bite to acidity, some earthiness and ferrous quality, with plenty of dark cherry, beef dripping, rose oil, and liquorice pastille on a finish of excellent length. Curiously, for its size, it doesn?t taste hot, and it even has some vibrancy about it. I like it. 93 points, drink 2024-2028+, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
