Domaine du Collier Saumur Blanc ‘Charpentrie’ 2022
Always an incredible wine, this is produced from an old vine parcel (>100 years) in the lieu-dit of 'La Charpentrie' in Brézé. Deeper and more sombre than the wine above always with a fine precision. Thrilling, complex scents of lime, flowers and pineapple give way brightly citric, concentrated palate, underpinned by chalky, mineral elements. This has more power and tension than the Saumur Blanc (if that is even possible!) - it is simply a wine for the ages. This rare bottling is one of the great white wines of France
Crafted from ancient vines (close to 100 years), the 2022 Saumur Blanc La Charpentrie unveils in the glass with a bright, elegant bouquet of fennel, lemon oil, anise, spices and spring flowers. Medium to full-bodied, ample and charming, with a pure, vibrant and enveloping core of fruit, it concludes with a mineral, saline and crystalline finish. This is worth hunting down. 94-96 points, drink 2026-2046, Yohan Castaing, The Wine Advocate.
