Col Vetoraz Coste di Levante Prosecco 2024
Col Vetoraz is one of those producers who makes you look at Prosecco differently. While a huge amount of Prosecco is farmed on flat and fertile soils, cropped at a high level and made into bland, ordinary wines, some producers approach the wine style from the opposite direction. Having visited the town/appellation of Cartizze in Veneto in 2022, it's clear to see why this part of the appellation is considered the 'grand cru' of the region. Here, farming is done by hand due to the hilly, rolling terroir. Plots are small and low-yielding. There is a real sense of quality to the fruit and pride taking in the quality of the vineyard sites. It's Prosecco, but not as we know it. In the glass, quality shines through and the wine sits far removed from other, lesser producers. Yes, you can buy Prosecco at much cheaper prices, but in Col Vetoraz you're getting real wine with character and authenticity. - Ches Cook, Five Way Cellars.
