Cerbaiona Grammatica Toscano Rosso Sangiovese IGT 2023
I’ve drunk multiple bottles of this wine over the past few months – I can’t get enough. While officially classified as a lowly Toscana Rosso, in Cerbaiona’s case this is declassified fruit that could be used to make their Rosso di Montalcino. A further difference here is that this wine uses pressings, whereas only free-run juice is used for the Rosso di Montalcino and Brunello. The use of free-run juice for those wines certainly helps explain the elegance and ethereal nature of said wines, however similarities are also seen in Grammatica. This is perfumed, immensely elegant and lifted aromatically. It has tense red berry fruit, orange peel, mandarin and hints of Tuscan earth. It’s expansive and entirely convincing. What an incredible entry-point and one of my personal discoveries of the year (alongside its two siblings). Sadly it is very limited and I don’t see stock lasting until Christmas… - Ches Cook, FWC.
Bright as a button! This is lighter of course, yet not much and the stuffing is not awkward at all. The sheer quality of fruit spreads ‘down’ to here, with characteristic elegance, swirling fragrances of raspberry, musk and violets. Bright, fresh, flowers, life! Do not miss this. - David Ridge, importer.
