Bloodwood 'Maurice' 2019
It's full of finesse and elegance, the superb Bloodwood fruit shines like Aladdin's Lamp. If more people made Cabernet like this it would not be in the slump that it is. Most Coonawarra Cabernet's are an embarrassment! The Maurice shows chalky, blackcurrant fruit with the perfect line of austerity. It is really WOWING me. An outstanding vintage of this wine. To be compared with a small number of quality cabernets out there - Joshua Cooper, Sorrenberg and Crawford River come to mind. Plus a few from margaret River - especially Moss Wood. Ian Cook, FWC.
Bruised dark scarlet in colour, the invitingly ripe black fruited potpourri eases through a fruit dense palate of ripe dark chocolate and vanillin char. Those same black fruits suffuse a long-textured, well balanced fleshy palate framed in fluent, very finely integrated French oak tannins. Stephen & Rondha Doyle.
