Bindi Pyrette Shiraz 2022
This always remains an incredible value buy - this year is no different. Only medium bodied it's inviting nose is redolent of black pepper, dark pepper and that guttural edge (though not intensly ripe) that Heathcote shiraz displays. It's serious for the price, with crunchy blackberry, earthy - dusty tannin layered through the palate. Lovely drinking but will only get better with age. Recommended. Jeremy Muller, FWC.
The fruit is sourced, as usual, from the Colbinabbin vineyard (starting in 2001) and the Col Mountain vineyard (starting in 2014). It is made in a similar way to the Pinot Noirs, with the exception of seeing around 20% whole bunch inclusion in the fermentations (rather than zero or close to zero for the Pinots). The 2022 is very complex with beautiful aromas; mulberry, red and dark plum, spice and graphite. The medium weight palate has flair and is intense with the fruit power driving a structured and firm finish. These wines certainly improve with eight years cellaring and drink for many years after that but can also be enjoyed for their medium weight and harmony right now. Michael Dhillon, Winemaker.
Notes of bitumen, liquorice, pepper, earth and blackberries. Not syrupy but sappy and slowly encompassing the mid palate, much like the way lava flows. Full of detailed savoury flavour and immensely enjoyable, would love to how this wine develops with age.
