Bindi 'Kostas Rind' Chardonnay 2024
A linear driven expression with so much to like...Pure lemon zest with a subtle tang, a wet stone mineral feel with salinity measured perfectly. Elements of stone fruit, hints of mandarin skin and light toast riding a smooth texture, remaining tensile yet never negating generosity. This is great and one of the best chardonnays I've tasted recently with a lengthy life ahead. Mitch Milicich, FWC
This is a very fine Kostas Rind, coming from the volcanic soils over clay on the lower Bindi Chardonnay plantings from 1988. Destemmed berries go into the press and the juice is taken straight from the tray into the barrels, around 25% of which are new small French oak.
The fermentation occurs without yeast addition and the wine remains on all lees for ten months until just prior to bottling. The 2024 is beautifully fragrant with spice, lemon and white flowers aromas mixing with lovely nutty and wet stone complexity. It is fine and poised. The palate is fresh and energetic with excellent intensity. Initially it is gently creamy and then the fruit intensity combines with the acidity and fine phenolics to drive for a pure, balanced finish. It will improve for five plus years and live well beyond.
