Benjamin Leroux Nuits-Saint-Georges 2023
Another standout Nuits from Leroux. He believes this year’s wine is the best he has made so far. The lion’s share of the fruit was drawn from Aux Herbues on the Vosne border, then there is a parcel in Saints-Jacques, just next door, while Les Tuyaux, a stony terroir at the very northern end of the appellation, makes up the power trio. All the vines lie in the northern sector of Nuits, with views of Vosne-Romanée. The 2023 was entirely destemmed. It’s a wine that transcends its humble village appellation, and offers far greater finesse than we typically associate with Nuits. It’s elegant and fine, with some classy oak, but of course, the stamp of the terroir is still there with some earthy, ferrous tannins to close. Importer’s notes.
“Benjamin loves Nuits-St-Georges in 2023 which is just as well because there is virtually nothing in 2024. Mostly destemmed. This has beautiful floral qualities, superb poise on the first half of the palate then develops a greater plummy richness behind. Archetypal Nuits in a very good way!” 92-94 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy.
