Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Bonnes-Mares 2020 Magnum
Natural cork. Leroux’s parcel within Bonnes-Mares was planted in 1983 and has always been managed organically. Like many of Leroux’s Grand Crus, it’s tiny (just 0.1 hectares), and it neighbours Christophe Roumier’s vines in the southern sector of the Grand Cru, on the Chambolle side. The soil type in this part of Bonnes-Mares is often referred to as terres blanches; it’s very rocky and rich in limestone and fossils. In 2020 Leroux included 15% whole bunches. Only two barrels were produced.
“Dense crimson purple, this is nearly as welcoming as the Amoureuses but with its extra touch of wildness. Blackberries in there. Power all the way through, some salinity at the finish, warm and friendly. Magnums only.” 94-97 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
