Benjamin Leroux Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru 'Les Cazetiers' 2022
Along with Clos-Saint-Jacques and Lavaux-Saint-Jacques, Les Cazetiers is considered one of the finest Premiers Crus of Gevrey. Inside Burgundy's Jasper Morris tells us: 'Good Cazetiers gives a feeling of refinement and precision which has an intellectual appeal as well as being vinously satisfying'. This steep, 8.43-ha vineyard is directly up-slope from the village of Gevrey, flanked by Clos Saint-Jacques and Combe aux Moines. Leroux's plot has 40-year-old Pinot Fin vines situated mid-slope on what he deems a ?gorgeous terroir.? The vines have been worked biodynamically for several years. The 2022 used two-thirds whole bunches and initially went into a new barrel before being racked into an older one. It's such a fabulous wine; intensely perfumed, the balance is spot-on, giving the wine a lacy delicacy despite the intensity. Magic.
?Bright fresh refined purple. The nose has a dancing elegance, with its mineral traces that run through the palate. Super elegance, very nuanced, yet with an energy that builds behind. Shows some new oak which will be easily digested. A lovely finish, almost ethereal.? 93-95 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy.
?Two thirds whole-bunch. Finely textured, intense, and firm. Concentrated but super-straight and fine-boned. I love the persistence. It has tension and cool minerality.? 96 points, Sarah Marsh MW, The World of Fine Wine.
