Benjamin Leroux Bourgogne Rouge 2022
This year's blend includes Bourgogne-level fruit from Leroux's key sources: the excellent Maison Dieu in Pommard, Mon Poulain in Volnay and Les Belles Cotes in Meursault. In 2022, these sites are complemented by village wines from Monthelie. Leroux opted to use whole-bunch fermentation only on the homegrown components. Maturation took place in 2,200-litre Grenier oak casks. As always, this punches way above its weight division. So crunchy and pure, yet with depth, it's loaded with grenadine and red-cherry fruit and plenty of spice.
The fruit for this wine has been sourced from different villages to previous vintages & is quite a different wine to the past. Don't read anything bad into that, the wine is fantastic. Mid bright crimson, lifted cherry, lavender, pomegranate ? a touch of sweet & sour. Really fresh, crunchy, bright & intense. Drank a glass of this at the end of the tasting & loved it. Wow ? this is an outstanding Bourgogne Rouge. Ian Cook, FWC.
?A deep mid purple, with unusual intensity ? this includes Monthelie and 1er Cru. An interesting mix of sweet raspberry, some blackcurrant, juicy cherry. Medium bodied, a fine balance between tannins and acidity alongside the abundant fruit.? 87-89 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy.
