Bannockburn Chardonnay 2024
We have already made mention of the fantastic job Matt Holmes is doing at Bannockburn, but it is worth mentioning again. We hadn't been wildly excited by the Bannockburn wines in the past decade or so, and as such, you won't have seen them at the shop. But things have really been turned around under the stewardship of Matt. This Chardonnay is a perfect example: its beautifully ripe and seamless, with a fantastic delivery of stone fruit with a light honey drizzle, but freshness pours from the wine in every sip. Oak playsa role, but without needing to shout from the rafters, and acid is integrated effortlessly. This is the perfect example of how good Australian Chardonnay can be and the price is really fair, too. – Ches Cook, Five Way Cellars.
This is a hard yes. It’s both flavoursome and frisky, it’s long through the finish, it has texture but it keeps up the momentum. Stonefruit, flint, nashi pear, a umami note and flashes of nougat and cedar. Everything here is in alignment and in harmony. It’s another beautiful chardonnay from Bannockburn. 95 Pts, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
Chalky and flinty aromas lift from the glass, interwoven with fleshy stone fruit, pithy citrus, and delicate hints of brioche and crème brûlée. The palate is rich and concentrated yet tightly coiled, showing tangy lemon, meringue, pie crust, oatmeal, and peach. A taut structure and piercing acidity bring precision, while an underlying richness and fleshy texture hint at what’s to come with time. This wine will undoubtedly benefit from cellaring, gradually unfurling into its full potential. If enjoyed young, decanting or extended exposure to air is recommended. Wholesaler's notes.
