Yeringberg Viognier 2023
Picked at three different ripeness levels over three weeks. All crushed and destemmed with several hours oxidative skin contact. 100% wild ferment in barrel, no MLF, 10 months in large format old oak.
A wine of elegance and finesse in 2023, the long, cool growing season has produced a Viognier of both purity and understated opulence. On the nose, there’s some restraint to the aromas of apricot, honey and lemon verbena, together with hints of white tea, ginger and orange blossom. The palate continues the aromatic theme framed by a wonderful line of moreish acidity and delicately pithy phenolics that provide the wine with drive, poise and balance. A wine to enjoy over the next 3-4 years, but might delight with longer cellaring too. – Sandra de Pury
Barrel fermented and matured for 10 months in large-format oak. A bright green gold. A little more restrained, perhaps, than ’23 with its complex bouquet of perfectly ripened apricots, yellow apple, quince and acacia honey. The palate is gently opulent, layered and very well balanced, finishing focused and long. A delicious and heady white wine to enjoy over the next three or so years. 96 points. Floral and lifted aromas of fresh apricots, lavender, fresh flowers, baking spices and pastry. The palate is medium-bodied with a generous texture and vivid acidity. A phenolic grip brings layers of complexity. Such a lovely Northern Rhone-style viognier. Drink or hold. 95 points. Top 100 Wines of Australia 2025, jamessuckling.com Oct 2025
