Tyrrell's Stevens Semillon 2021
One of the shining stars from the cool '21 vintage, with its lilting, citrusy aromas. It has energy and lift, with graceful, sweet lemon flavours and a hint of greengages. It is light and lovely, with moderate concentration and palate softness. 94 pts, Toni Paterson, The Wine Companion
Stevens Semillon comes from the Tyrrell family-owned Stevens Vineyard on Marrowbone Road, Pokolbin, our southernmost Semillon vineyard. It features a combination of light, sandy loams and darker, heavier transitional soils with the oldest plantings being from 1911.
As always, Stevens Semillon was one of the first Semillon blocks that we picked. In 2021, picking took place in the early hours of the morning on the 26, 27, and 28 January. The grapes were lightly pressed, and the free-run juice was fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks. The wine stayed in these tanks until bottling in early July 2021.
Classic Stevens, with its vibrant citrus lift and a touch of herbaceousness in the background. The palate is richer than the previous few vintages however, it still shows the typical lime citrus core of fruit with a mineral edge and a chalky finish.
