Sorrenberg Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2024
'This wine comprises 75% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Semillon and 5% Sauvignon Gris. Most of the Sauvignon Blanc fruit had 4 hours skin contact prior to pressing. The Semillon component is crushed and pressed immediately after picking. This wine was 100% barrel fermented with predominantly larger barrels used. All went through natural yeast fermentation and malolactic fermentation. The extended lees contact helps fill out the middle palate and gives this wine the extra dimension it is known for.
The 2024 bouquet shows lemon and lime with hints of cucumber. The citrus notes are vibrant on the palate and intermingle with crisp acid, balanced with a rounded mouth feel leaving a lingering finish.' Barry Morey, Winemaker
The finesse and elegance of Sorrenberg wines can be attributed to the fact that it is one of the highest vineyards on granite soil in the Beechworth region - a tiny 3 hectares at 560m. Halliday Wine Companion consistently rates Sorrenberg as the best of the best rating it 5 red stars and recently Top 100 Wineries of the Year 2024: 'Sorrenberg is a true gem, sparkling in goldmining country, and the wines deservedly disappear from the shelves in a breath.' Halliday Wine Companion
Both refreshing and complex, lemon and lime tang with hints of lavender and watermelon. The slightest amount of skin contact and the 5% Sauvignon Gris adding texture and nuance. On second inspection layers of alpine herbs and botanicals appear. Drink now or hold for added flesh and detail to emerge in time. Pair with charred mediterranean dishes for maximum joy.
