Schoffit ‘Harth’ Tradition Riesling 2021
‘The Riesling “Lieu-dit Harth Tradition” is another old vine bottling from Domaine Schoffit, as these vines are also fifty years of age. The soils in the Harth vineyard are loam over a gravel foundation. The 2021 Harth is focused and already beautifully expressive on the nose, with its aromatic constellation soaring from the glass in a mix of tart orange, sweet grapefruit, dried flowers, wet stone minerality, citrus peel, an incipient touch of menthol and a topnote of lemongrass. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and nicely round on the attack, with a superb core of fruit, fine mineral undertow, a good spine of acidity and a long, ripe, complex and beautifully balanced finish. This is drinking with impressive generosity right out of the blocks, but has the underlying structure to also age long and gracefully. Fine, fine juice. Drink 2024-2055. 92+.’ John Gilman, View from the Cellar, July 2024.
