Robert Weil Rheingau Riesling Trocken 2021
This cuv?e is a blend of fruit from high altitude sites dotted around the village. This includes the brilliantly named Sandgrub vineyard, but also a good dollop of wine from Wasseros (a steep, southwest-facing vineyard that abuts the Gr?fenberg vines). The soils of these sites are typically composed of stony, fragmented phyllite interlaced with loess and loam. This is the only dry wine in this offer raised entirely in stainless steel.
Already a world class Riesling and it?s only the beginning of the range! There?s wonderful depth and intensity as well as perfectly integrated acidity. The flavours are ripe but not at all exotic, rather suggesting lime, nectarine and white peach. There?s a wonderfully pulpy, pure and vibrant palate and a lingering, perfumed close with notes of talc and apple blossom. Such a bargain.
2021 already seems to be another fantastic vintage in the Rheingau, and particularly at Robert Weil. This is simply such a pleasurable wine to drink. Vibrant, alive and humming with energy. There is some richness here, a few grams of residual sugar i'd say, but a really crunch to the acid, a bit like biting into a perfectly ripe granny smith apple. - Ches Cook, FWC
