Matrot Meursault 1er Cru ‘Les Charmes’ 2022
Crafted from four parcels of 30-year-old vines rooted in clay-limestone soils. The wine undergoes fermentation and aging for 11 months in French oak barrels, with 20% being new oak, followed by a period in stainless steel vats before bottling. On the nose, it exudes a powerful sensuality, offering suave and caressing aromas of poached pear with sweet spices, candied apple, and confit peach, sprinkled with hints of cinnamon, almond powder, and lightly roasted hazelnut. This Meursault-Charmes is noted for its charm and elegance.
Importer’s notes.
A pretty lemon yellow. The soft warmth of Charmes is evident on the nose. One might say oaky but of course there is no new wood here. Significant power afterwards and then the acidity which is usually present chez Matrot. Good stuff.

The 2022 Meursault Charmes 1er Cru has a complex bouquet with enticing scents of lemon verbena, chamomile and orchard fruit, and a light nuttiness in the background. The ell-balanced palate has a fine bead of acidity, a light veneer of acacia honey, and a hint of ginger. Harmonious with real weight and elegance towards the finish. This is a beautifully crafted Meursault that should age effortlessly over the next 15-20 years.
