Heymann Lowenstein ‘Uhlen Blaufüsser Lay’ GG Riesling 2023
The 2023 Heymann-Löwenstein Uhlen Blaufüsser Lay Riesling Grosses Gewächs originates from the Uhlen Blaufüsser Lay vineyard in Germany's Mosel region, renowned for its slate soils that impart a distinctive minerality to the wine. This vintage has been lauded for its exceptional elegance and finesse, and is characterised by a firm, deep aroma featuring complex citrus and herbal notes, complemented by significant yet well-integrated acidity and an almost salty minerality on the palate. Importer note
Cool and flinty, this is an astonishingly deep and focused wine with a dangerous combination of mineral power and energy. At its heart is a stunning core of ripe white peaches and fresh garden herbs. The polish and precision in the finish are breathtaking. From organically grown grapes with Fair'n Green certification. Drinkable now, but best from 2026. 97 points. The 2023 Riesling Uhlen Blaufüsser Lay Grosses Gewächs, grown on blue Devonian slate, will not be bottled and released until 2025. A gentle, creamy note hovers on the nose, followed by a subdued, smooth hint of apple on the finish. The palate has immense clarity, beautiful concentration and the most attractive undertow of chervil and moss. It verges beautifully, linear and elongated into lingering notes of pithy citrus. All here is fine-boned, yet rich and concentrated with a long aftertaste. (Dry). 94–96 points. Anne Krebiehl MW, Vinous Sep 2024
