Frankland Estate Isolation Ridge Riesling 2023
As good as the entry level Riesling is, this is a step up. There is a real zing and fizz to the acid line, like an electric wire running through the wine. This is supported by red and green apple, plus some mandarin zest which I really enjoy seeing. It even shows some added richness in white peach or under-ripe nectarine which adds yet another dimension to the wine. Very good, very serious Riesling. - Ches Cook, FWC.
Vineyard planted in 1988. Frankland Estate do Riesling a little differently to many others, in that they get plenty of richness and flavour into their wines.
Apple, lime, a sort of Chinese jasmine tea smell about it (don’t mind me, though it does make me fancy some yum cha!), maybe some aniseed too. It’s rich and powerful in flavour, apple, apricot, and ripe lime, fine chalky texture, and there’s some sweetness here too, though whether it’s residual sugar, or fruit power, I know not, but there is something of a barley sugar/honey thing happening here. The finish is long and firm, with a subtle parmesan rind savoury character. Very nice. Drink 2024-2033+. 95 Points. Gary Walsh, The Wine Font.
