Moorak Blanc de Blancs 2022

Tasting this was the first time we'd met winemaker Jordan Hein (although i have recently listed some wine of his on a restaurant list i have been working on). He comes across as a very switched-on guy and the proof seems to be in the pudding, with a fantastic and serious sparkling here. Taken from the Carey Gully vineyard in the Adelaide Hills, it's 100% Chardonnay. For whatever reason, i was expecting something lean and high in acid, but what we found was quite different. While still beautifully pure and vibrant, there is an openness to this wine and a generosity to the fruit. Flavours span beyond those of green apple and citrus and go into areas of straw, hay and cereal grains. It's really quite interesting and most importantly, very delicious as a complete package. - Ches Cook, FWC.
