Riggs & Wiggs 'Cullarin' Shiraz 2024
The Cullarin Vineyard sits overlooking Lake George in NSW near the ACT border. Established by Dr Edgar Riek in 1971, it is the oldest vineyard in the greater Canberra wine region.
A cool climate savoury Shiraz, with the vineyard at 750m elevation. Medium density colour and purple tints. Brambly, red cherry fruit aromas and these follow to the palate. Sweet cashew oak and fine tannins from the lower alcohol.
Lake George, NSW
There's a really nice feel to this wine: it's medium bodied with dark cherry and plummy fruit with an overlay of brown earth. The edges are soft and there is a gentle, laid-back feel to the flow of it. Alcohol and acid are both only moderate, making it a really pleasant drink with a persistent line of fine brown spice. Nice drinking. Previous vintages have come out under the Eden Road label- Ian Cook - FWC.
in 2010 Wiggs bought Canberra's oldest vineyard, established by Dr Edgar Riek on the shores of Lake George in 1971. Fragrant violets, a twist of white pepper, a sprinkling of mace. A gorgeously high-toned aromatic exoticism. The palate is crushed velvet in liquid form, tapered with highly pixelated tannins. 96 pts, Nick Ryan, The Australian Wine Magazine.
