Willunga 100 Smart Vineyard Grenache 2022

Opinions were evenly divided as to which of the three newly released single-site Grenaches we preferred from Willunga 100, when we tried them all recently. Ultimately though, most agreed that this wine, from the Smart Vineyard in Clarendon, is the most elegant and the wine with the most red-fruited purity. In fact, this has a real Pinot-esq feel to it, with lifted red florals, finely grained tannin and an acid profile that elevates flavours of dehydrated red berry, crushed Provencal herb and pomegranate. While the Trott Vineyard Grenache offers more exotic flavours and an impressive array of faint amaro bitterness, this is a wine for purists, who seek out elegance, perfume and fine textures in their wines.
