Vietti Barolo Castiglione 2020 Magnum
Vietti's entry level Barolo always punches above it's weight. From 22 different plots all over the Barolo region and including quite a bit of declassified Cru wine. Beautifully perfumed with red berry fruit, a hint of red licorice and it's finer and more elegant that the awesome 2019 (more power in 2019) Beautiful balance and length with very fine tannins. Great now and for another 10 years. Over the past year, I have especially enjoyed the 2010 2006 at home and the 2018 in a restaurant in Sorrento. Ian Cook, FWC.
Always a popular choice, the Vietti 2020 Barolo Castiglione (made with a blend of fruit from multiple MGA sites) has a voluptuous approach with dark fruit, cola, wild berry coulis and smoky tar. The wine wears a hot vintage well, with accessible and powdery tannins for near or medium-term drinking. In terms of texture, the Castiglione has a little more brawn and body compared to your standard Barolo. 93 points, drink 2025 to 2038, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate.
Fragrant, polished and vibrant right out of the gate, the 2020 Barolo Castiglione displays beautifully-lifted notes of crushed red berry fruit, rose petal, mint, white pepper and orange peel. This classically built, mid-weight Barolo is classy to the core. Like all the 2020s here, it will benefit from time in bottle or a good decant. 93 points, Drink 2024 -2035, Antonio Galloni, Vinous.
