Tyrrell's NVC Shiraz 2023
"Vineyard planted in 1921. It now gets the yellow label, though the price is a little bit under the other ‘Sacred Site’ wines. Toasty, earthy, iodine, blackberry, black liquorice, spice, a little black pepper. Medium-bodied, but bold and gently chewy and earthy, lots of flavour, so much presence and earthy Hunter goodness, with a long finish of excellent length. A little vanilla and grainy tannin grip, some orange peel too, but kind of juicy with it. Distinctive wine. NVC is such a specific vineyard, and no change in 2023. It’s a wine style that some will go mental for, because it packs so much old school Hunter terroir into the bottle. And I like that. It’s distinctive and could be from no place else. 95 points." - Gary Walsh, Wine Front.
