Timo Mayer Close Planted Pinot Noir 2025
Dark cherry, raspberry, a little forest floor lift — classic close planted density. The palate is plush and generous, sweet edged dark raspberry fruit with real drive. Long, slightly firm finish. You can feel the riper year in the bones of it, but what a gorgeous wine. Wholesaler's notes.
The close planted is 25% whole bunch so the savoury spice sits firmly sits in the background. I saw some dark plums here, lots of fleshy fruit on the palate but without being broad in anyway. Definitely more open and fruit driven than the Dr Mayer so a lovely contrast. Cameron Roebuck, FWC.
All estate grown with 25% whole bunches and matured in 20% new hogsheads. A bright crimson. Leaps out of the glass with its bouquet of red and blue fruits and lifted spice. It's more violet than rose. The medium-bodied palate is luscious whilst remaining light on its feet. Succulent tannins round out a wine that will provide pleasure now and over the next six to eight years. 96 points, Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion.
