Sailor Seeks Horse Pinot Noir 2024
High toned spice, drunken cherry, weight, structure, sap. 2.5 tonnes per ha. Natural yeast ferment including 5% whole bunch. 16% new oak. 12 months in barrel. Winery's notes.
Casting my mind back to the 2023 vintage of this wine I recall the overwhelming savoury profile of the wine. In 2024 with warmer conditions the savoury elements of spice and undergrowth are clearly defined but there is a step up in fruit concentration in the 2024. Red Cherry and raspberry are in that tart and slightly juicy spectrum framed by this wonderful fine chalky tannin structure which is a real hallmark of the wine. Enjoyable now but the structure to be put down in the cellar and enjoyed in 10 years time. Cameron Roebuck, FWC.
Bright red cherries and raspberries, a pop of pomegranate too. Some dried rose buds and Moroccan spices sprinkled about. A baseline of autumnal leaves crunched underfoot. It's supple and sinewy, with the deftest touch of sappy grip anchoring it all. Beautifully fine, talcy tannins. 96 points, Nick Ryan, the Australian.
