Jane Eyre Savigny les Beaune 2022
This parcel comes from the same Domaine as the Savigny les Beaune 1er cru Vergelesses. Wines of village appellation are often a blend of several parcels. However, when a wine is made from fruit coming from one parcel the name is often called out on the label, as in the case of the Auxey Duresses Les Crais. This vineyard is called 'En Connardises.' One can only guess why someone came up with this name - look it up! Despite the unfortunate vineyard name the quality of the fruit was superb and has made a wine that over delivers. 30% whole clusters. Aged in 300L barrels, no new oak. Bottled 9th November 2023. Deep garnet-red color. The nose is ripe, with aromas of red fruits (cherry & redcurrant) and spices, such as pepper and cloves. There is plenty of fruit on the mid-palate finishing with a gentle grip of the tannins. This wine can already be appreciated in its youth for its fruity aromas, but will age well over the next 10 years. Jane Eyre.
A one-shot opportunity from a friend before he pulled out the vines. 3 x 300 litre barrels made. One of the deeper purple colours in the centre, with plenty of fruit energy. Lots of raspberry fruit energy, less fragrance than the Vergelesses, plush through the middle, a delicious juicy well balanced 2022. 88-89 points, drink 2027-2032, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
Mid to light crimson. Not as open as the Cotes de Nuits-Villages, with dark-red fruits. Juicy but firmly encased in fine tannins. Delicious already and still promising a good future. 16.5 points, drink 2025-2030, Julia Harding/Jancis Robinson.
