Hewitson 'Old Garden' Mourvedre 'Museum release' 2010
Dean Hewitson famously lays claim to making wine from the oldest Mourvedre vineyard in the world. It’s a small site (8 rows from memory) and not a lot of fruit is produced by these gnarly vines. However, what does come off this site it special: the wine has a blue fruit profile with bramble and Provencal herb. Tannins are pleasantly grainy but now with fourteen years of age on this release, the wine has a mellow and approachable feel. It’s in a great drinking window now. – Ches Cook, FWC.
Clear crimson; a wine that is complete and confident in itself, effortlessly filling the bouquet and palate with its small red and black fruits, a shimmer of tannins throughout, and a lingering finish. Vines planted 1853. 97 points, drink by 2030, Halliday Wine Companion.
